Leader: John C Two colonial cottages at Camp Cove have been booked for 4 nights. These cottages are owned by NSW National Parks. The cost is $350 per night total. Maximum of 14 people so it would cost us $25 per night each. Fully self-contained and linen is supplied. I need to know quickly who wants to come because a deposit will be needed. These cottages are very popular and these are the first dates available.

Sat 3 Oct WILD CATTLE AND BALLINAFAD CREEKS 14km Medium (11)
Leader: Peter W We will leave the cars on the fire trail at GR246484, go 1km south down to the creek, then do a circuit up Ballinafad Creek and back down Wild Cattle Creeks. Tussocky creek flats, and open forest with rare scattered light scrub. Climb: 360m. Average altitude about 1100m. Maps: Tinderry, Kain. Cars: 120km ($14). Meet at Q at 8:30 am.***
Sun 4 Oct PYRAMID AND GIBRALTAR PEAK 9km Easy (7)
Leader: John W From the old Tidbinbilla information centre we climb on fire trails to Devils Gap. Then there is a 175m climb through the bush to the Pyramid for morning tea. We return to Devils Gap and follow a track and fire trail to Gibraltar Peak for lunch. We return on a fire trail to the cars. Cars: 60km ($7). Map: Tidbinbilla. Meet at K.
Sun 4 Oct LONG FLAT FROM MOUNT CLEAR CAR PARK 18km Medium (9)
Leader: Mac K Starting from the car park we follow the Long Flat Fire Trail to Long Flat, at the south end of which we turn west along a small creek to reach the NSW border in the vicinity of spot height 1376. We then follow the fire trail on the NSW/ACT border north-westerly for about 4½km until we reach a saddle, from where we follow the north-flowing tributary to Grassy Creek and back to the car park. Climb: 450m. Cars: 160km ($19). Maps: Bredbo, Colinton. Meet at K.

Leader: Peter W There will be 4 day walks in Wilsons Promontory NP, one walk at Tarra Bulga NP, and one elsewhere. Accommodation will be just out of the park near Yanakie. This trip is at present over-booked.
Fri 9-Sun 11 Oct TWO WALKS IN THE BUDAWANGS Monolith Valley/Green Room (15km) and The Arch (7km), both medium grade
Leader: Janet E Travel down Friday, car camping at Yadboro River. Leave early Saturday morning, walk up the steepish Kaliana Ridge along to Meakins Pass and onto Monolith Valley, climbing about 550m, passing Shrouded Gods and onto the "Green Room", a spectacular small gorge covered with mosses, ferns & other greenery. Return to camp by the same route. On Sunday morning walk up another but not-so-steep track along the side of the Castle and onto The Arch, visiting a cathedral-like cave on the way. Return back to camp just after lunch and then drive back to Canberra. This will be a joint trip with CBC. Please book by Tue 6 Oct to allow time to sort out transport. Cars: 300km $36. Leader: Brian L A very short drive from Queanbeyan and 1km along the Captains Flat Road, we head off along a fire trail until we get to a creek which will lead us to a lovely gorge. We will follow this gorge for several kilometres for views over Queanbeyan. Some ups and downs. Cars: 20km ($2). Maps: Bungendore, ACT 1:100,000. Meet at Q.

Leader: Mac K From Corin Dam we have a long ascent to Stockyard Spur and then along the ridge to join the Mount Franklin Road beneath Little Ginini Mountain. We follow the road south, passing Priors Hut, and after about 2km turn to follow the track to the top of Gingera. Return via the same route Climb: 900m Cars: 90km ($11). Map: Corin Dam. Leaders: Bent and Karen J From the parking area at Pine Island a round trip along the back of Greenway, crossing Tuggeranong Creek at a bridge, then along the creek to the path that follows the Murrumbidgee River, crossing the creek on stepping stones, and back along this path. Meet at 9am at Pine Island North parking area.***

Sat 17 Oct KOWEN FOREST 9km Easy (6)
Leader: Brian L From the Burbong Bridge on the Bungendore Road we walk along the Molonglo River to the junction with Glenburn Creek across grassland and fire trails. We visit the ruins of William Collier and Glenburn homesteads and one of the earliest European cemeteries in the region. Return along Kowen Forest tracks. Listen for the competition trap shooters at their national range facility near Glen Burns Creek. Cars: 10km ($1). Map: Bungendore. Meet at Q.

Leader: Bob C This is a triangular walk from Smokers Trail car park and is mostly off track with some rough sections after an initial 1km along the trail. We turn off the trail and head east for Blue Gum Creek and follow the creek upstream. This will lead to Emu Flat where we will have lunch.. The return journey is roughly north back to the Smokers Trail. near where we left it. Climb: 300m. Cars: 70km ($8). Map: Corin Dam. Meet at K.

Mon 19-Fri 23 Oct A WHALE OF A TIME AT EDROM LODGE, EDEN various Easy (7) and Medium walks
Leaders: Clare & John M This spring holiday will include two days of walking on the coastal path between Green Cape Lighthouse and Boyds Tower in the Ben Boyd NP South of Eden at the height of the whale-watching season. A Merrica River walk and a climb of Mt Imlay will be on offer to complete a week of walking and those needing further challenge can explore Nadgee NP. Cost: 4 nights accommodation @ approx $25pp/night for a group of 30 + park fees @ $7/car/day + transport costs. Maps: Kiah and Eden for the Light to Light Walk, Mount Imlay and Narrabarba. Limit: 30 people [already over booked]

Leaders: Pat and Eric P An exploratory walk (4 days) on the Deua River enjoying the scenery and looking for evidence of nineteenth-century gold mining. The approach will be from the mountains behind Moruya, so quite a long car ride. Please note that the dates follow those for the trip to Edrom Lodge. Cars: TBA. Leader: Lorraine S From Mount Majura car park we climb Mount Majura and then along ridgeline to Mount Ainslie. Down Mount Ainslie to War Memorial and back behind houses in Ainslie. Climb: 350m. Map: Canberra Street Map. Meet at Mackenzie Street entrance to Majura Nature Park, Hackett. (near junction with Grayson Street).
Sun 25 Oct NAVIGATION TRAINING
Leader: Trevor B Trevor will conduct a one-day introductory navigation course in a bush land setting within the ACT. The first part of the course will be spent going through some of the principles behind map reading and compass navigation. The second part will apply the theory by navigating around a route of varying difficulty in a bush terrain. If you have (or can borrow) a Silva-type compass (or other brand), bring it along, but dont go and buy one. Mapping material and notes will be supplied. Leader: Doug F From the Wog Wog entrance to the Moreton National Park we walk mostly on track to this popular spot in the western Budawangs. We will explore upstream along the Corang River. There is interesting vegetation and there should be an opportunity for swimming at the cascades. Cars: 260km ($31). Map: Corang. Meet at Q at 7:30am. ***
Sun 1 Nov TUGGERANONG HILL NATURE RESERVE 10km Easy (6)
Leader: Trevor B This is a walk through the two parts of the NR, starting and finishing at the electricity substation off Callister Crescent in Theodore. During the walk we will climb to the television transmission station and trig for great views all round. Climb: 420m. Cars: 28km ($3). Map: Tuggeranong. Meet at K.

Leader: Bob C We start on Bradleys Creek Walk from Googong Dam and continue to Queanbeyan River Fire Trail. About 3km along this trail we come to an unnamed track to the right, leading to Hells Hole. Leader: Peter B An attractive walk along a stretch of the Queanbeyan River, the highlights being a pretty little gorge and a pleasant river lunch spot. The walk is not long and there is not much of a climb, but the terrain is scrubby and difficult in places. Cars: 100km ($12). Maps: Captains Flat. Meet at Q.
Tue 17 Nov-Fri 20 Nov RAMS HEAD RANGE AND KOSCIUSZKO CIRCUMNAVIGATION Medium Pack walk (11)
Leader: Mary H The walk begins at Dead Horse Gap from where we follow the Rams Head Range to a camp site near the Rams Head (6km, 300m climb). There will be an optional side trip of 2km without packs to South Rams Head. On day two we proceed north and join the track from the Thredbo chair lift. There is an optional climb to the top of Kosciuszko, then we go to our camp site on Wilkinson's Creek (9km, of which 6 are on track). An afternoon walk to Mount Townsend (6km, 200m climb). Day three will see us walking to the south and west of Kosciuszko, where we cross Swampy Plain River and climb onto the Rams Heads again. Our third camp will be near North Rams Head. (10km, 150m climb, no tracks). The last day is a shorter walk; we will drop down to a track which takes us back to the road at the Thredbo River (6km, 320m drop). Maps: Thredbo and Kosciuszko 1:50000. Contact the leader by Saturday 14 November to book and arrange meeting time and transport.

Leader: Peter W These are wonderful limestone features. Bring a torch. This is a fairly long walk, but it is mainly on roads or rough tracks. About 3km across open forest, there is a short steep descent/ascent, and the short section in the creek is on boulders or on sloping rock. Sandshoes for crossing the river. Climb: 360m. Leader: Doug F A beautiful walk in the Araluen area. Walk along idyllic casuarina-lined Bells Creek, occasional boulder-hopping with a waterfall and lookout over the Araluen valley. Walk may be extended if the weather is kind. Try your hand at gold-panning; you never know your luck. Cars: 220km ($26). Map: Monga. Meet at Q.

Leader: Mac K From the War Memorial car park to Ainslie and Majura, there and back again along the ridge. An early start and a quick walk to beat the heat and be back in time for lunch. We'll discuss where to go for lunch as we walk. A faster walk with more height gain than the usual route Climb: 700m. Maps: Canberra, Hall. Meet at the War Memorial car park at 8am.***

Leader: Prue D Starting at the Booroomba Rocks turn-off on Apollo Road, we walk roughly north towards Blue Gum Hill. After the saddle below Gorilla Rock we loop to the west and climb Hill 1318. Good rocks and views. We take a slightly different route back via Gorilla Rock. Mostly off-track, thick scrub in some sections. Climb 400m, some steep sections. Cars: 65km ($8). Map: Corin Dam. Sun 13 Dec ORRORAL HERITAGE WALK 12km Easy (7)
Leader: Maureen F A walk exploring the early and more recent history of the area through interpretive signs along the track. Starting from the Orroral camping ground we follow a trail that leads into the Orroral Valley. We head up the valley, stopping at places of interest. We continue up the valley and return off track following the river until we meet the track back to the camp ground. Climb: 200m. Cars: 80km ($10). Map: Rendezvous Creek. Meet at K.

Leader: Prue D) On Saturday afternoon we walk from the Mount Ginini car park along the fire trail to the foot of Mount Gingera and then up the track to the summit. Camp near the summit and observe the sunset and sunrise. Walk back to the cars on Sunday morning. Possible short walk without packs on Sunday. Cars: 140km ($17). Map: Corin Dam. Restricted numbers. Leader: Colleen F We are proposing 2-3 days of walking in the Kangaroo Valley area. Accommodation would be in a caravan park so that participants could choose either to camp or book cabins. There are a range of easy/medium walks in the area. Phone the leader by Fri 12 March 2010 if interested in participating.
WALKING IN PERISHER AGAIN
There will be a week at a ski lodge with two walks daily in Perisher in the early part of next year, possibly in March. Contact Judy L from late November for more details and confirmation.
