Sat 3 Jul MT TENNENT & BARBECUE LUNCH 14km Medium (9) with Easy (6) option
Leaders: Pat and Eric P From the Namadgi National Park headquarters we follow the Alpine Walking Track for about 2 hours to the fire tower on Mt Tennent and return. We allow 4 hours for the trip, returning in time for lunch at the Visitor Centre barbecue area around 1.00pm. The Easy option is to commence the return before reaching the top. It does not matter if you dont make it to the top. Everyone walks at their own pace for the four hours. Bring hot soup, crusty bread, sausages etc (barbecue available) and warm clothes. Climb: 750m, all on track. Cars: 60km ($7). Map: Williamsdale. Meet at K for an 8.30am start***.

Leader: Judy G From London Bridge along fire trails to Curley Falls for lunch. Some rock scrambling to look at the falls. We will then climb steeply but slowly to regain the fire trail that leads back to London Bridge. Climb: 100m. Cars: 50km ($6). Map: Captains Flat. Meet at Q.

Leader: John C An easy walk on fire trail starting at Glendale and ending at Caloola Farm in the Naas River Valley. Undulating with a few steep climbs, but downhill overall. Car shuttle required. Lunch at picturesque Brandy Flat Hut. Climb: 200m. Cars: 100km ($12). Map: Michelago. Meet at K
Sun 11 Jul TANKS TOPS AND ROCKS 9km Medium (10)
Leader: Prue D From Honeysuckle Creek tracking station we head for the tanks above it. Then climb through scrub to the top of hill 1364. Our next move is in a westerly direction down to the open area between the hills. Climb through thick scrub with some rock scrambling to the rock known as the Spinnaker. Return via road. Leader: John C The walk starts on the Bradleys Creek Walk from the Googong Dam lower car park. We go 5km along the track and then leave the track and head almost east to a peak which overlooks Googong Dam. This is open grazing country. We return by the same route. Climb: 450m. Cars: 26km ($3). Leader: John C From the Pipeline Road in Pierces Creek Forest we climb 200m on an overgrown fire trail to Mount Hardy. We follow the ridge on a rough overgrown trail to Cotter Hill, then drop down steeply through bush to the Pipeline Road. Return up Pipeline Road. Climb: 300m. Cars: 50km ($6). Leaders: Mary H and Ray F One group will walk approximately 10km up Rendezvous Creek from Boboyan Road, then take a track across a saddle to Nursery Creek and walk down to the Nursery Creek car park. The other group will do the walk in the opposite direction. All on track, but some is rather overgrown. Car keys will be swapped when we meet for lunch. Leaders: Clare and John M A steady climb of 300m from the old visitors centre, Tidbinbilla Nature Park, up to Gibraltar Rocks, and then following fire trails across to Devils Gap for lunch. Leader: Peter W We drive to the end of Woolcara Lane (on the way to Captains Flat), and walk uphill on fire trails, creek sides and hill sides, have lunch at Horseshoe Hill with hopefully panoramic views, and go back on a largely clear spur. This is an interesting new walk, with good views in pleasant country. Mostly off-track, but generally good walking surface. Climb: 450m. Map: Captains Flat. Cars: 90km ($11). Leader: Brian L A very short drive from Queanbeyan and 1km along the Captains Flat Road, we head off along a fire trail until we get to a creek which will lead us to a lovely gorge. We will follow this gorge for several kilometres for views over Queanbeyan. Some ups and downs. Cars: 20km ($2). Maps: Bungendore, ACT 1:100,000. Meet at Q.

Leader: Mac K From the Orroral Tracking Station car park we follow the Granite Tops Walking Track to the lunar laser ranging station. Turning SW, we head to the top of Mount Orroral, then follow the ridge NW for about 1k before descending back to the walking track and then back to the car park. Views and massive boulders;expect borderline hard going through the post-fire regrowth. Climb: 700m. Cars: 90km ($11). Map: Rendezvous Creek. Meet at K.

Coordinator: John C The plan is for 2 weeks walking in the Haute Savoie of France. We are staying in a lodge in Chamonix, a town in the valley under Mont Blanc. The area will have spectacular alpine scenery. There will be a range of walks from the high end of easy to hard. We have 20 members going and the lodge is now fully booked.

Tue 7-Fri 17 Sep COUNTRY TO COAST CAMPING TRIP Easy-Medium
Leaders: Trevor and Lyn W We are planning a leisurely trip which will include easy/medium walks, relaxed camping and some pleasant driving through lovely countryside. Enough time will be allowed for sitting in the sun and reading! We will spend 2 or 3 nights each in Mudgee (including historical town walk), Walcha (Apsley Gorge), Port Macquarie and Crowdy Bay National Park (coastal walks and wildflowers). Suitable for campervans/trailers, tenters and also those wishing to rent cabins. It will be possible to join us for just part of the trip. Contact Trevor and Lyn by 1 August if you would like to come along. Early notice of intention to come would be appreciated.

Fri 10-Sun 12 Sep ETTREMA Hard pack walk
Leader: Philip G From the Tolwong Road the plan is to walk into the Ettrema Gorge via Transportation Spur, spend two nights in the gorge and on the third day return to the cars probably via Jingles Pass. All of the walk will be off track, some of it will be scrubby and there will be rock scrambling to negotiate Ettremas various cliff lines. The second and third days will involve climbs of about 500m per day. Some of the second day will be exploratory. Contact leader for more details closer to the date. Bookings close Tuesday 7 September. Cars: 190 km. Maps: Touga and Yalwal 1:25,000. This walk is also on the NPA (ACT) outings program. Limit of 8.

Leader: Annabel A This is a circuit walk that begins in rural leasehold land. We walk from OMalley East up to Mount Sheaffe then continue along the rocky eastern side of Isaacs Ridge. We pick up tracks to Wanniassa Hills and Farrer Ridge, returning through the pine forest in Isaacs. Climb: 360m. Cars: 15km ($2). Maps: Canberra, Tuggeranong. Meet at K.

Leader: Peter W A classic walk starting from Yankee Hat car park. About one half of the distance is the approach on former pine forest roads. The other half of the distance is off track, in forest, up via the saddle, and down via the spur. A climb, with scrub patches, some of which will be thick and wide. Climb: 750m. Cars: 130km ($15). Sat 25 September CORN TRAIL 20km Medium (11)
Leader: Peter W This is a cross over walk that follows the early colonial packhorse route from the coast up Clyde Mountain. We climb/descend 700m on a reasonable track. Some views. There is a wide range of vegetation, including river rain forest. Lunch at Buckenbowra River crossing. Note that the start point at the top has changed, and now the walk is 2km longer. Leader: Lorraine S From Mount Majura car park we climb Mount Majura and then along ridgeline to Mount Ainslie. Down Mount Ainslie to War Memorial and back behind houses in Ainslie. Climb: 350m. Map: Canberra Street Map. Meet at Mackenzie Street entrance to Majura Nature Park, Hackett (near junction with Grayson Street).

Leader: Mary H Starting from Rowleys Hut we do a circuit with camp sites near the upper reaches of the Cotter River, at Rotten Swamp, near or at Upper Cotter Flats, and below Mt Morgan. We climb Scabby, Kelly, Burbidge, (maybe Namadgi), Murray and Morgan as optional side trips. The last two days are largely on tracks, the rest is scrub. For more information contact the leader.
